Advent 2012

The Advent Season begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas.  Sunday, December 2, 2012 is the first Sunday of Advent.  Please join us at Faith United Church of Christ for Advent worship at 9:30 a.m.

Each Sunday during Advent we will light one new candle.  Candles that have been previously lighted will be re-lighted; but each weeks' focus is on the new candle with a new theme for that Advent Sunday.

The first candle is the candle of hope.  As this season of “sparkle and bright” unfolds before us, the glimmering promises of hope lie like boxed jewels awaiting an adoring light.

May we hold fast to hope’s patient possibilities. May we lift them high that they might catch the light of our dreams and shine bright in our broken world.  And may we instill hope’s challenge in the hearts of our children that they, too, will live it into meaning–pouring their lives, as we do ours, into making it real–for themselves, for each other, for the world.

Please take the time to explore our web site while you are here!  Faith United Church of Christ is an active community for faith that is open, affirming, a just peace congregation that is accessible to all.  Our ministries help us engage people from all walks of life.  You are most welcome to be a part of our ministry not only here in Iowa City, but around the world.

Check back each week for a short meditation for the new Advent Candle and to explore the new items on the web site.  Advent blessings to all!
